material

We recommend a thick knit fabric, a soft wool fabric , or a quilted fabric.

Sizes 34-42:

• Outer fabric: 2.50 m x 140 cm wide

• Lining: 0.35 m x 140 cm wide

Size 44-50:

• Outer fabric: 2.80 m x 140 cm wide

• Lining: 0.35 m x 140 cm wide

Bias tape: 2.70m x 4cm wide

Cut:

Cut out the pattern pieces from your outer fabric. Place the fabric right side up. Align the selvedges parallel to the center so you can fold the back piece in half. All pattern pieces should be placed with the printed side facing up. Always align the grainline arrow on all pieces in the same direction and parallel to the selvedge of the fabric.
Transfer all notches from the pattern by making a 3mm snip with scissors or using chalk. Snip the seam allowance on the fold of the fabric, as this is always the center point. Markings define the positions of dart ends, pocket positions, etc. Transfer these either with chalk or pins.
Seam allowances are included - 1cm wide or as indicated by the marking notches!

You will need the following fabric:

  • 2x front part, mirror image
  • 1x back part broken
  • 2x sleeves, mirrored
  • 2x pocket bags, opposite each other

You will need the following from the feed:

  • 2x pocket bags, opposite each other

Sewing instructions:

Seam allowances are included – 1 cm wide or as marked.
To sew this coat, you'll need a sewing machine and an overlock machine, or alternatively, the zigzag stitch on your sewing machine to finish the raw edges. The yellow lines in the pictures, in addition to the written instructions, show you where to sew seams, finish edges, or glue. When sewing, pay attention to the seam allowance included in the pattern. Seam allowances not specifically marked are 1 cm wide! Happy sewing!

First, you finish the back center seam of the attached collar on the front piece....

...then the straight edges of the 4 pocket bags.

The outer fabric pocket bag is sewn right sides together to the back side seam,

the lining pocket bag to the front side seam.

Next, the seam allowance on the lining pocket bag in the front section is topstitched flat.

Now you finish the side seam and the hem of the front piece....

...and the back panel.

The side seams and the hem of the sleeve are also finished.

In the next step, you sew the back center of the attached collar to the front piece, right sides together, and press the seam allowance open.

Now the shoulder and neckline/collar can be sewn together in one go. Place the front and back pieces right sides together, starting at the shoulder, then sew the collar from the front piece into the neckline of the back piece and continue to the other shoulder.

The seam allowance is finished together and ironed forwards.

Then the sleeve is sewn to the front and back pieces, right sides together....

...and the seam allowance neatened together.

Now sew the side seam right sides together. Sew from the hem to the lower pocket opening and secure the seam. Continue from the upper pocket opening to the sleeve hem.

Now close the pocket bag...

...and finish the entire side seam including the pocket bag.

Next, the edge processing for the coat is prepared.

You cut a 4cm wide bias tape. To achieve the total length you need, you will have to sew bias tapes together.

Here you can see the joining seam. The bias tape is ironed in half lengthwise, wrong sides together.

Now sew the folded bias tape right sides together to the front edge, over the collar and down the other side, at a presser foot width.

Then iron it inwards and stitch it through at about 1cm.

The hem is folded over by 1cm and stitched.

You do the same for the sleeve hem.
