Our dress pattern Martha is so popular with you that we came up with a successor for Martha. Just as simple, but with the famous special detail, a 3/4 sleeve and quick and easy to sew. This time, the round insert on the side draws everyone's attention, the circular ruffling creates many small wrinkles that not only conceal, but also make quince so attractive. Try it out and sew another favorite dress.
Center back length = 98-104cm
In these instructions, the quince was sewn from a soft jersey.
Required material:
We recommend a soft jersey.
Size 34-38 | outer fabric | 1.75 m | 140cm wide |
Size 40-44 | outer fabric | 2.10m | 140cm wide |
Size 46-50 | outer fabric | 2.70 m | 140cm wide |
cutting:
Cut out the pattern pieces from your fabric. Place the selvedges parallel to the center. The pattern pieces should all be face up. Always align the grain arrow on all pieces in the same direction and parallel to the selvedge of the fabric. Transfer all the notches from the pattern through a 3mm long incision with scissors or chalk and mark the ends of the darts . Pinch the seam allowance in the fold of the fabric because this is always a center.
You need from fabric:
- 1x back part left side
- 1x back part right side
- 1x front part
- 2x sleeves in opposite directions
- 1x circle
- 1x strip
- (2x strips for the armholes if the dress is to be sleeveless)
Sewing instructions:
To sew this dress you need a sewing machine and an overlock sewing machine, alternatively you can use the zigzag stitch on your sewing machine to finish the raw edges.
Be sure to use a jersey needle and use a stretch stitch, i.e. if you are sewing with a home sewing machine you should use either a zigzag stitch or the tripartite elastic stitch and then all seam allowances again with a zigzag stitch or another appropriate stitch neaten so they don't fray. In addition to the description, the colorful lines in the pictures show you where a seam needs to be sewn or something to be glued.
When sewing, pay attention to the seam allowance included in the pattern.
Happy sewing!
Before you sew the pieces together, you first have to overcast all the side seams of the front and back pieces, as well as the center backs of the back pieces. Then you start with the back pieces, put them right sides together at the center back and sew them together. Iron the seam allowance apart.
The next step is to connect the front and back pieces. If you have a pattern from size 42, you still have to close the bust dart on the right side in the front part. Then place both parts right sides together and close the side seam with the side cutout. Iron the seams apart again.
Now it's time to integrate the circle into the page. But first you have to ruffle the hole (here's a video on how to ruffle) . For this you sew two auxiliary seams with a large stitch length (3.5-4). You do not lock these, but let the thread protrude at the beginning and end. Knot one end and pull on the other. A little tip: It is best to gather the front and back pieces separately from each other, as both should have the same length in the end and you have to gather more in the front piece! Also distribute the gathering width so that there is most gathering in the waist area and none on the side seams.
When you're done gathering, you can pin the circle. Of course, place the edges right sides together again. When pinning on, make sure that the snaps are on top of each other and that you don't sew in the circle the wrong way round! Finally, trim the seam allowances together and iron outwards.
Now line up the other side seam and sew together. Iron the seam apart.
Next up is the shoulder. Sew both shoulders together and overcast together. Then iron the seam allowance into the back piece.
Next, you'll take care of the neckline. To do this, iron the strip together once in the middle.
Unfold the strip and sew the open ends together. Now you have a ring.
Now put the ring on the neck hole. You have to place the snaps in the strip on the center front and center back. The seam of the sewn ring comes on the right shoulder seam.
You have to iron the sewn-on strip inwards and sew it tightly to the neckline.
Now you come to the sleeves. First, neaten the edges of the sleeve seams. Then fold the sleeve and close it. From this seam, iron out the seam allowance. Finally, you can fold in the sleeve hem twice and sew it in place. So the sleeves are ready to be sewn on.
The next step is now clear: insert sleeves. There is a shoulder and a front snap for orientation. Seam the seam allowances back together and iron into the sleeves.
And finally, all you have to do is turn the hem in twice and sew it in place.
Your QUINCE is ready!
