This 4-panel skirt is a quick sewing project and you can do it well even as a beginner. The flared hem width allows the short skirt to swing beautifully as you move. If you want to lengthen the mini skirt , simply add the desired centimeters to the hem of the pattern piece. The waistband has an elastic band to make it easy to slip on.
Length in the middle back = 40 – 46 cm#
Kim in this pattern was sewn from a thin faux leather.
Required material:
We recommend a soft, flowing and opaque product such as faux leather, jersey, silk or polyester.
Sizes 34-50 | Outer fabric | 1.20 m | 140cm wide |
rubber | 70 – 110 cm long | 3cm wide |
Cutting:
Cut the pattern pieces from your outer fabric. Lay the fabric right side up. Place the selvedges parallel to the center so that you can place the waistband on the fold. The pattern pieces should all lie face up. Always align the thread arrow in the same direction on all pieces and parallel to the selvedge of the fabric. Transfer all the clippings from the pattern through a 3mm long incision with scissors or chalk. Clip the seam allowance in the fabric fold because this is always a center. Markings define positions of dart ends, pocket positions, and much more. Transfer these either with chalk or pins.
What you need from fabric:
- 1x waistband in break
- 4x skirt part
Sewing instructions:
To sew this skirt you will need a sewing machine and an overlock sewing machine, or alternatively the zigzag stitch on your sewing machine to neaten the cut edges.
Be sure to use a jersey needle and use a stretchy stitch, i.e. if you are sewing with a household sewing machine, you should use either a zigzag stitch or the three-part elastic stitch and then all seam allowances again with a zigzag stitch or another appropriate stitch Neaten so they don't fray. In addition to the description, the colorful lines in the pictures show you where a seam needs to be sewn or something needs to be glued.
When sewing, pay attention to the seam allowance included in the pattern. Seam allowances that are not specifically marked are 1cm wide!
Have fun sewing!
First, the first two skirt cuts are placed, right sides together, and closed on one side. The seam allowances are then neatened together and ironed to the back. However, if you use artificial leather, the cut edges will not fray and therefore do not need to be cleaned.
Repeat this step with the other two skirt pieces.
Then the prepared skirt pieces are placed, right sides together, and closed on both sides. The seam allowances are then neatened together and ironed to the back. However, if you use artificial leather, the cut edges will not fray and therefore do not need to be cleaned.
The waistband is placed right to right and folded together. Iron or unfold the seam allowances.
The waistband is ironed or folded once in half, left sides together. We also recommend that you sew an auxiliary seam (stitching foot width) so that nothing slips or distorts when sewing on.
The prepared waistband is pinned, right sides together, to the skirt piece and sewn in place. Make sure to leave an opening (4cm) for the rubber to pass through.
Here you can see a detailed photo with our opening in the waistband.
Cut the elastic to the desired size and attach a large safety pin to it.
You then pull these through your tunnel. At the end, both rubber ends are sewn together and the width is evenly distributed.
Don't forget to close your opening again afterwards.
Here you can see our finished sewn waistband.
If you are not sewing Kim from imitation leather, you should neaten the hem edge, iron it over 1cm and topstitch it 0.7cm wide.
