You can never have enough simple summer skirts that make a statement. Quinta is quick to sew, thanks primarily to the elastic waistband. The most striking detail is the "pointed" hem, meaning the sides are considerably longer than the center front and center back. The side seams also have open slits, and the hem forms a wide panel that can be easily set off with a contrasting fabric.
Length in the front center 57-61cm
→ To the “Quinta” pattern
In this tutorial, the Quinta was sewn from a jersey and a polyester satin as a facing.
To sew this skirt you will need a sewing machine and an overlock sewing machine, or alternatively the zigzag stitch on your sewing machine to neaten the cut edges.
In addition to the description, the colored lines in the pictures show you where a seam needs to be sewn or something needs to be glued.
When sewing, pay attention to the seam allowance included in the pattern.
Have fun sewing!
First, take the skirt pieces. Each skirt piece has two pleats. Place the notch closest to the center of the skirt on the notch next to it. The pleats should be facing the center, and the pleats should be 2 cm wide. Now, sew the four pleats to the seam allowance. Next, take the skirt and neaten the four side seams.
Then neaten the straight edges on the four pocket bags (here: marked in yellow).
Place each finished pocket pouch, right sides together, along a side seam of the skirt. Sew them together at a 0.7cm indentation from the waistband to the bottom notch. Securely tack.
Now it's time to close the pocket pouches. To do this, place the skirt pieces and pocket pouches right sides together and sew the pocket pouch closed (here: see yellow line). Neaten the seam allowance of the pouch.
Now all you have to do is close the side seams. The yellow lines in the image show the sewing lines. You need to close the side seam from notch to notch, as there's a slit at the hem. You can only close the short section at the waistband up to the notch, otherwise you'll sew the pocket opening shut. Press the side seam open.
Next, we'll make the joining strips. Fold them lengthwise and sew the diagonal sides together. Then turn and iron.
Now attach the finished strips to the skirt. Don't be surprised if the strip is slightly shorter than the skirt edge. You're supposed to sew the strip between the notches (there will be 2 cm of overhang on the left and right). Press the seam upward and neaten the seam allowance.
Fold the 2cm that stick out twice and iron it flat.
Now sew the seam allowance of the slit. You can do this in one seam (here: the yellow line indicates a topstitching).
Fold both pocket pouches into the front piece and pin them to the waistband. You can neaten the waistband's seam allowance in a circle.
For the waistband, you'll need an approximately 4cm wide elastic band. Cut this to fit the pattern piece. Sew the ends of the band together and neaten the seam allowance.
Then attach the elastic band to the waistband so that the extra width is evenly distributed and sew it in place.
Finally, just iron the seam allowance down.
