Wide tiered skirts exude a feeling of freedom and the attitude to life of the 70s. The wide step in the lower skirt area gives Roos the casual width that easily follows every movement. The elastic waistband makes the tiered skirt easy to put on and creates additional comfort.
Length at center back = 92 cm
In these instructions, Rose was sewn from a viscose woven fabric.
For your information in advance:
Required material:
We recommend a flowing fabric such as viscose or silk.
Sizes 34-50
-
Outer fabric 1.90m (140cm wide)
-
Rubber 0.65 - 1.05 m 3 cm wide
Cutting:
Cut the pattern pieces from your outer fabric and interlining. Lay the fabric right side up. Place the selvedges parallel to the center so that you can place the skirt on the top tier, the skirt on the bottom tier and the waistband in the fold. The pattern pieces should all lie face up. Always align the thread arrow in the same direction on all pieces and parallel to the selvedge of the fabric. Transfer all the clippings from the pattern through a 3mm long incision with scissors or chalk. Markings define positions of dart ends, pocket positions, and much more. Transfer these either with chalk or pins.
What you need from fabric:
- 1x waistband in break
- 2x skirt upper level in the break
- 2x skirt lower step in the break
Sewing instructions:
To sew this skirt you will need a sewing machine and an overlock sewing machine, or alternatively the zigzag stitch on your sewing machine to neaten the cut edges.
In addition to the description, the colorful lines in the pictures show you where a seam needs to be sewn or something needs to be glued.
When sewing, pay attention to the seam allowance included in the pattern. Seam allowances that are not specifically marked are 1cm wide!
Have fun sewing!
Double iron the bottom tier hem...
... and around.
Close the side seams of the top tier right sides together and finish the seam allowances together. Press the seam allowances back.
Close the side seams of the bottom tier right sides together and finish the seam allowances together. Press the seam allowances back.
Now curl the top edges of the steps. Either you have a gathering foot and the route fits the pattern pieces or you stitch two guide lines and gather by hand.
There is also a video on how to curl curls here.
Here you can see a detailed photo of the crimp.
You also curl the bottom step all around.
Then stitch the top step onto the bottom step, right sides together, and neaten the seam allowances.
Iron the waistband inside out, left sides together.
Stitch the waistband together on the narrow sides, right sides together. Make sure to leave an opening in the inner waistband for the elastic band. Iron the seam allowances apart.
The waistband has a so-called piping on the upper fold. Stitch a seam the width of a foot all the way around. (To secure the two layers of fabric, you can also sew an auxiliary seam the width of a quilting foot along the bottom edge.)
Now connect the waistband, right sides together, with the upper step and neaten the seam allowances together. Press the seam allowances down.
Cut the elastic to your correct size and use a safety pin to pull it through the opening in the inner waistband.
Close the elastic band into a round shape.
Finally, stitch the already ironed hem just around the edge.
