The Kudio bag is your ideal companion for the beach, the swimming pool, but also for shopping. Our design example is sewn from two different fabrics, so the lower part/bottom is made from an oilcloth that is dirt-repellent and wipeable. A little moisture isn't a problem either. The remaining parts of the beach bag are made of sturdy cotton or jeans. Because they wrap around the floor, the long straps are particularly durable and do not tear easily. An inside pocket with a cell phone compartment and the outside pocket complete the space. Size = 58 x 48 cm
In this pattern, Kudio was sewn from denim and a heavier cotton.
We recommend a sturdy cotton or denim and oilcloth .
Cut the pattern pieces out of your fabrics (we chose option 2). Lay the selvedges parallel to the center so that you can cut the pattern pieces twice. The pattern pieces should all lie face up. Always align the thread arrow in the same direction on all pieces and parallel to the selvedge of the fabric. Transfer all the clips from the pattern through a 3mm long incision with scissors or chalk and mark the position of the pockets.
What you need from fabric:
- 2x fuselage outside, opposite
- 1x pocket outside
- 4x carriers, opposite each other
From the inner material you need:
- 2x fuselage inside, opposite
- 1x pocket inside
- 2x bag bottom
To sew this bag you will need a sewing machine and an overlock sewing machine, or alternatively the zigzag stitch on your sewing machine to neaten the cut edges. In addition to the description, the colorful lines in the pictures show you where a seam needs to be sewn. When sewing, pay attention to the seam allowance included in the pattern. Seam allowances that are not specifically marked are 1cm wide!
Have fun sewing! First we prepare the inner pocket. Finish the edges and iron over the seam allowance on the sides and bottom edge. Fold in the top edge 2x 2 cm and topstitch this at 1.8 cm. Pin the inner pocket to the markings on the right side of one torso (inside). Stitch the bag close to the edge and at 0.7 cm. Sew the corners of the inner pieces together using a 1cm seam allowance. Place the inner pieces right sides together and close the side seams and bottom with a 1 cm seam allowance. The inside pocket is finished so far. Now we move on to the outside pocket. Iron over the 1 cm seam allowance at the top edge of the bottom of the bag. Fold the top edge of the outer pocket 2x 2cm and topstitch it at 1.8cm. All other edges are cleaned. Sew two straps together and iron the seam allowance apart. Stitch the outer pocket to the marked position. If you chose a soft material, you can tuck the straps. Unfortunately, this was not possible with the denim. So we ironed the straps into the fold and folded in the seam allowance on the open edges. The straps are stitched close to the edge. Place the bottom of the bag on the outer body and stitch it on just under the edge. At the top edge the pocket disappears underneath. Place the open edge of one strap at the bottom of the bag and continue over the bag's neck seam. The side edges of the bag are finished with the strap. Stitch it with the same stitching to 4 cm below the pocket opening. Be careful not to twist the strap. Also stitch the strap on the other outside pocket. Pay attention to the same position. Also sew the corners of the outside together with a 1 cm seam allowance. Place the outsides right sides together and close the side seam and bottom. Make sure the patterned fabric and straps are the same height. Iron the seam allowance on the top edges and pack the inside pocket into the outside pocket and stitch just along the edge of the opening. Stitch the straps securely. You may be able to sew a snap fastener in the middle to close it. Finally, sew the straps firmly at the opening with a cross.
