The tunic Karla is a casual long blouse: wide and very comfortable. Karla shouldn't pose a problem for sewing beginners, since the neckline trim is also finished with raw edges. With the ties from the side seam, the width can be reined in and tied both at the front and at the back. Just try what you like better.
Length at center back = 80-84cm
In these instructions, Karla was sewn from flowing chiffon.
Required material:
We recommend a fine, flowing fabric such as polyester chiffon, silk or viscose
Size 34-42 | outer fabric | 170cm long | 140cm wide |
Size 44-50 | outer fabric | 200cm long | 140cm wide |
cutting:
Cut out the pattern pieces from your outer fabric. Lay the fabric right side up. Lay the selvedges parallel to the center so that you can lay the front and back pieces in the fold. The pattern pieces should all be face up. Always align the grain arrow on all pieces in the same direction and parallel to the selvedge of the fabric. Transfer all the notches from the pattern through a 3mm long incision with scissors or chalk . Snip the seam allowance in the fold of the fabric because this is always a center. Markings define positions of dart end points, pocket positions, etc. Transfer these either with chalk or pins .
You need from fabric:
- 1x back part in break
- 1x front part in break
- 2x sleeves in opposite directions
- 2x binding strips
- 1x neck strip
Sewing instructions:
To sew this tunic you need a sewing machine and an overlock sewing machine, alternatively you can use the zigzag stitch on your sewing machine to finish the raw edges.
In addition to the description, the colorful lines in the pictures show you where a seam needs to be sewn or something to be glued.
When sewing, pay attention to the seam allowance included in the pattern. Seam allowances that are not specially marked are 1 cm wide!
Happy sewing!
Place the front piece on the back piece, right sides together, and sew the shoulder seams together. Neat the seam allowance and press it to the back.
Next up is the neck hole. Sew the short ends of the strip right sides together so you have a ring. Sew one open side of the strip right sides together to the neckline. I placed the seam of the stripe here on the seam of the left shoulder.
Now neaten the seam allowances and iron them into the bodice.
Stitch the seam allowance from the right side from just under the edge and possibly 0.7 cm wide next to the seam (the upper edge now protrudes unfinished from the neckline).
Next, sew the sleeves into the corresponding armholes. You can use the snaps on the front and sleeves to find out which sleeve goes where. The double snap always belongs in the back armhole. Overcast the seam allowances and iron into the sleeves.
Sew tie straps together lengthwise, right sides together. Leave one of the two short sides open, because you have to turn the ribbons right side out through this opening. Then iron the ribbons flat on the edge.
Sew the finished ribbons to the notch marks on the side seams.
Next, close the underarm and side seams in one go. Overcast the seam allowances and iron into the back piece. Finish sleeve hems and top hem and iron 2cm inwards. At 1.5cm, stitch the hems firmly to the outer fabric and iron flat.
