The Grace skirt is just right for sewing beginners. With the pointed yoke and asymmetrical hem, it can be sewn in just a few steps. If you want, you can contrast the color of the waistband and yoke with the skirt , creating a nice contrast and thus a beautiful summer skirt .
Length in the center front = 61 – 65 cm
Grace was sewn from a printed jersey in this pattern.
Required material:
We recommend a soft jersey.
Sizes 34-40 | Outer fabric | 1.30 m | 140cm wide |
rubber | 3cm wide | 80cm long | |
Sizes 42-50 | Outer fabric | 1.60 m | 140cm wide |
rubber | 3cm wide | 105cm long |
Cutting:
Cut the pattern pieces from your outer fabric . Lay the fabric right side up. Place the selvedges parallel to the center so that you can place the waistband on the fold. The pattern pieces should all lie face up. Always align the thread up arrow on all pieces in the same direction and parallel to the selvedge of the fabric. Transfer all the clippings from the pattern through a 3mm long incision with scissors or chalk . Clip the seam allowance in the fabric fold because this is always a center. Markings define positions of dart ends , pocket positions, and much more. Transfer these either with chalk or a pin .
What you need from fabric:
- 1x waistband in break
- 2x yoke front and back part
- 2x skirt front and back pieces in opposite directions
Sewing instructions:
To sew this skirt you will need a sewing machine and an overlock sewing machine, or alternatively the zigzag stitch on your sewing machine to neaten the cut edges.
Be sure to use a jersey needle and use a stretchy stitch, i.e. if you are sewing with a household sewing machine, you should use either a zigzag stitch or the three-part elastic stitch and then all seam allowances again with a zigzag stitch or another appropriate stitch Neaten so they don't fray. In addition to the description, the colorful lines in the pictures show you where a seam needs to be sewn or something needs to be glued.
When sewing, pay attention to the seam allowance included in the pattern. Seam allowances that are not specifically marked are 1cm wide!
Have fun sewing!
Start with the special detail of the Grace skirt: the pointed yoke in the front and back. Sew the front and back yokes, right sides together, to the corresponding skirt piece. Pay attention to the lace in the center front and back:
The seam allowances are neatened together and ironed down.
Then sew the front and back parts of the skirt together, right sides together, at the side seams. Make sure that the yoke seams meet exactly. Finish the seam allowances together and iron them backwards.
Now you can work on the waistband and sew it together on the narrow sides, right sides together. You iron the seam allowances apart and the waistband is ironed in half, inside out, inside out.
The waistband is placed, right sides together, on the skirt piece and sewn on. Make sure to leave a 3-4cm opening for the rubber.
The seam allowances are neatened together and ironed down. Here too you have to leave the opening for the rubber open and close it later.
Cut the elastic to your size, secure it with a safety pin and pull it through the opening into the waistband. The elastic is sewn 2cm above each other at both ends, pushed back into the waistband and the opening in the waistband is then closed.
The hem of your skirt is neatened and ironed according to the marking in the pattern.
Lastly, the hem is topstitched all around.
