Instructions: How to lengthen the Denver shirt into an elegant dress
Share
With these detailed instructions, you can transform your Denver shirt into a stylish dress.
Preparation
Important note: The 36 cm extension is adjustable – feel free to adapt it to your desired dress length. If the length is different, the hem extension will change accordingly.
Step-by-step instructions
1. Extend the basic lease
Extend both the front and back center seams as well as both side seams along the length of the shirt by 36 cm (or your desired measurement).
2. Extend the back section
- From the back center, draw a right-angled line that is 6 cm wider than the original side seam.
- At the end of this line, draw a 2.5 cm long guideline at a right angle upwards.
3. Create a new hemline on the back piece
Draw an elegant curved hemline from the center back to the raised point (2.5 cm guideline).
4. Define the elastic band area
Connect the new hem point to the lower notch mark in the side seam. The elastic will later be sewn in up to this point.
5. Adjust side seam
The distance from the original T-shirt hem to the new side seam is approximately 1.5 cm .
6. Adjust the front part
- Measure the new side seam on the back piece from the notch to the hem.
- Transfer this measurement to the new side seam on the front piece.
- Draw the hem with a corresponding new curve from the front center to the new side seam.

Result
You will receive a beautiful dress with a feminine A-line silhouette, where the elastic waistband creates a lovely waistline at the top, while the lower part flows elegantly outwards.
Tip: First, make a test pattern from inexpensive fabric to check the fit before cutting your final fabric.
