SEWING INSTRUCTIONS BAG “KUDIO”

The Kudio bag is your ideal companion for the beach, the swimming pool, but also for shopping. Our design example is sewn from two different fabrics, so the lower part/floor is made of oilcloth that is dirt-repellent and wipeable. A little moisture isn't a problem either. The remaining parts of the beach bag are made of solid cotton or jeans. By wrapping around the bottom, the long straps are particularly durable and don't tear out so easily. An inner pocket with a mobile phone pocket and the pocket on the outside complete the space. Size = 58x48cm

In this pattern, Kudio was sewn from denim and a firmer cotton.

Required material:

We recommend you a solid cotton or denim and oilcloth .

1st variant Material 1.90 m 140cm wide
Cloth 2/ oilcloth 0.50 m 140cm wide
2nd variant outer fabric 1.60 m 140cm wide
inner fabric 1.10 m 140cm wide

cutting:

Cut out the pattern pieces from your fabrics (we chose option 2). Lay the selvedges parallel to the center so that you can cut the pattern pieces twice. The pattern pieces should all be face up. Always align the grain arrow on all pieces in the same direction and parallel to the selvedge of the fabric. Transfer all the snaps from the pattern through a 3mm long incision with scissors or chalk and mark the position of the pockets.

You need from fabric:

  • 2x hull outside, opposite
  • 1x pocket outside
  • 4x carrier, opposite

You need from the inner fabric:

  • 2x hull inside, opposite
  • 1x pocket inside
  • 2x bag bottom

Sewing instructions:

To sew this bag you need a sewing machine and an overlock sewing machine, alternatively you can use the zigzag stitch of your sewing machine to finish the raw edges. In addition to the description, the colored lines in the pictures show you where a seam needs to be sewn. When sewing, pay attention to the seam allowance included in the pattern. Seam allowances that are not specially marked are 1 cm wide!

Happy sewing! First we prepare the inner pocket. Neat the edges and iron the seam allowances on the sides and bottom edge. Fold in the upper edge 2x 2 cm and topstitch at 1.8 cm. Pin the inner pocket to the markings on the right side of a torso (inside). Stitch the pocket just under the edge and up at 0.7 cm. Sew the corners of the inner pieces together with a 1cm seam allowance. Place the inner parts right sides together and sew the side seams and the bottom with a 1 cm seam allowance. The inside pocket is ready so far. Now we continue with the outer pocket. Press over the 1 cm seam allowance at the top edge of the bottom of the bag. Fold in the top edge of the outer pocket 2x 2cm and stitch at 1.8cm. All other edges are trimmed. Sew two straps together and press open the seam allowance. Stitch the outside pocket to the marked position. If you have chosen a soft material, you can tip the straps. Unfortunately, this was not possible with the denim. So we ironed the straps into the fold and turned in the seam allowance at the open edges. The straps are stitched just below the edge. Place the bottom of the bag on the outer torso and stitch it up just short of the edge. At the top edge, the pocket disappears underneath. Place the open edge of a strap at the bottom of the bag and continue over the top seam of the bag. The side edges of the bag are finished with the strap. Stitch it in the same stitching up to 4 cm below the pocket opening. Be careful not to twist the strap. Stitch the strap on the other outside pocket as well. Pay attention to the same position. Sew the corners together with a 1 cm seam allowance on the outside as well. Place the outer sides right sides together and sew the side seam and bottom. Make sure the patterned fabric and straps are the same height. Iron the seam allowance at the top edges and tuck the inner pocket into the outer pocket and stitch along the edge of the opening. Stitch the straps tight. You can also sew on a button in the middle to close it. Finally, you sew the straps properly at the opening with a cross.
