Length in the back center = 76 - 80 cm
In this pattern, Brixen was sewn from a double-face knit.
Required material:
We recommend a felt, knit or velour fabric.
sizes 34-42
- outer fabric 1.70 m (140cm wide)
sizes 44-50
- outer fabric 1.90 m (140cm wide)
sizes 34-50
- Bias strips 10 m (3cm wide) lining or cotton
Cutting:
Seam allowances are included - 1cm wide or as marked!
Cut the pattern pieces out of your outer fabric. Lay the fabric with the right side facing up. Lay the selvedges parallel to the middle so that you can lay the back and collar on the fold. The pattern pieces should all be laid with the writing facing up. Always align the grain arrow on all pieces in the same direction and parallel to the selvedge of the fabric. Transfer all notches from the pattern by making a 3mm long cut with scissors or chalk. Notch the seam allowance on the fold of the fabric because this is always a middle.
You will need fabric:
- 1x back part in the fracture
- 1x front part right side
- 1x front part left side
- 1x scarf
- 10m diagonal strip
Sewing instructions:
Seam allowances are included - 1cm wide or as marked!
To sew this cape you will need a sewing machine and an overlock sewing machine, or alternatively the zigzag stitch on your sewing machine to neaten the cut edges.
Be sure to use a jersey needle and a stretch stitch, i.e. if you are sewing with a home sewing machine, you should use either a zigzag stitch or the three-part stretch stitch and then finish all seam allowances again with a zigzag stitch or another similar stitch to prevent them from fraying.
In addition to the description, the colored lines on the pictures show you where a seam needs to be sewn or something needs to be glued.
You stitch the 0.7cm wide bias strip onto the right side of your front and back shoulder seams.
Now fold the strip upwards and iron it.
Next, close the shoulder seams 1cm wide. Make sure you sew next to the lining.
You fold the cut edge of the lining strip, place it around the seam allowance of the outer fabric and pin the whole thing in place.
Sew the fold edge of the lining strip close to the edge. Make sure that you do not hit the rolled-up wool fabric, then the seam will be nice and evenly thin.
Now iron your shoulder seams. You may want to use an ironing pad if you have one.
This is what the seam looks like from the right side of the fabric
Compare the right and left side of your cape
Do the same with the scarf's seam. Please iron:)
Next, neaten the long outer edge in the same way. Check beforehand whether the bias tape is still long enough for this. If necessary, lengthen your bias tape
Stitch the ribbon right sides together onto the outer edge of your cape. Leave the first centimeter of the ribbon loose. You will need this loose centimeter to sew the end of the strip onto it. Keep the ribbon a little short in the curves. This will make the curves roll up a little.
You have sewn the band all the way around the cape. When you get back to the beginning of the lining band, sew the lining strips together.
In the photo you can see again that the hem curves turn slightly upwards.
Now place the lining strip around the outer fabric, fold in the lining edge and secure it with pins. The lining edge is now stitched on close to the edge. The curve is particularly beautiful when kept short.
Now is the right moment to iron the edge
You're actually done now.
If you want to attach the side seams together at one point, you can use the rest of your ribbon for this. There is a special marking on the cut for this.
We still had a small piece of leather strap that was suitable for this purpose.
