Sewing instructions for the Amber blouse

A classic Carmen blouse, reinterpreted. The Amber blouse pattern impresses with its generous width and long sleeves. The neckline and sleeve hem are held together with an elastic band. Amber also looks great under a dirndl.

The Amber blouse with the beautiful Carmen neckline was sewn from a thin cotton fabric.

Required materials:

We recommend a flowing fabric such as silk, viscose, chiffon or georgette

  • Sizes 34-40: Outer fabric 1.75m (140cm wide)
  • Elastic band 1.25m – 1.50m (1.5cm wide) depending on size

Cutting:

Seam allowances are included - 1cm wide or as per marking clips!

Cut out the pattern pieces from fabric and transfer the notches from the pattern. The colored clips in the pictures, in addition to the description, show you where to sew a seam.

  • 1x front part in the fracture
  • 1x back part in the fracture
  • 1x sleeve opposite
  • 1x strip for the front neckline
  • 1x short strip for the neck hole in the fold
  • 1x long strip for neck hole in the fold
  • 2 elastic bands for cuffs
  • 1 elastic band for the neckline

Sewing instructions:

Seam allowances are included - 1cm wide or as per marking clips!

Iron the small strip for the front neckline in half lengthwise, wrong sides together. Pin it around the neckline, right sides together, so that all three open edges overlap, and sew it in place.

Clip the NZ in place just before the seam and then fold the strip inward, exactly along the seam. Iron it in place. Sew the strip once, close to the edge, along the seam...

...and a second time, close to the ironed edge. Now the neckline is beautifully finished. Transfer the dart markings to the front piece.

Place the two side pins right sides together and pin them in place. The left pin indicates where the dart should end. Sew the two darts with your sewing machine, and when you get close to the end, choose a very small straight stitch so you don't need to tack the seam end.

Fold the darts upward, press them, and pin them in place for later. Place the matching sleeve, right sides together, on the front and close the arm seam (blue clips). Repeat on the other side.

Then place the back piece right sides together on the sleeve and close the arm seam there as well (blue clips). Repeat this on the other side. Then place the front piece right sides together on the back piece and close the lower arm and side seams in one go. Repeat this on the other side.

Iron the bottom edge of the sleeve 1cm inwards and then again another 1.5cm inwards.

Stitch this tunnel in place, leaving a small opening at the seam. Using a safety pin, pull the elastic through this opening and through the tunnel until it comes out again.

Be careful not to twist the elastic band and sew the two ends together securely. Then pull the sewn end back into the tunnel and close the small opening. Repeat these steps on the other side.

Fold the hem of your blouse inward twice by 1.5 cm and iron it firmly. Then sew the hem close to the edge.

Now close the neck strip by placing the short piece right sides together on top of the long one and sewing it in place at both sides. Be careful not to twist the strip. Now fold the strip in half lengthwise, iron it wrong sides together, and then iron both open edges inward by 1 cm.

Pin the strip, right side facing, to the wrong side of the blouse, all the way around the neckline, so that your side seams line up with the sleeve seams of the back. Sew the strip exactly along the ironed 1cm line. Make sure the markings on the strip line up with the two edges of the small front neckline. If necessary, clip the backing just before the seam.

Then fold the strip around the open edge to the right side of the blouse, creating a tunnel. The 1cm ironed edge now meets the seam you just created.

Pin the strip securely all the way around and sew it on close to the edge. As explained with the sleeve, leave a small opening through which you pull the elastic, sew it securely at the ends, pull it into the tunnel, and close the opening again. This way, you now have a neat finish both inside and out.
