Nähanleitung Jacke Elin

Sewing instructions for Elin jacket

Level : easy - for beginners

Length at back center = 56cm-60cm

ELIN was sewn from linen in this tutorial.

Materials needed:

We recommend linen, gabardine, denim or poplin.

Sizes XS-L

  • Outer fabric 1.75 m (140 cm wide)

Sizes XL-3XL

  • Outer fabric 2.00 m (140 cm wide)

Cut:

Seam allowances are included - 1cm wide or as indicated by the marking notches!

Cut out the pattern pieces from your outer fabric. Place the fabric right side up. Align the selvedges parallel to the center so you can lay the back piece on the fold. All pattern pieces should be placed with the printed side facing up. Always align the grainline arrow in the same direction on all pieces, parallel to the selvedge of the fabric. Transfer all notches from the pattern by making a 3mm snip with scissors or using chalk. Snip the seam allowance on the fold, as this is always the center point.

You will need the following fabric:

  • 2x front part, mirror image
  • 1x back piece in half
  • 2x sleeves, mirrored
  • 2x collar placket

Sewing instructions:

To sew this jacket you will need a sewing machine and an overlock sewing machine, or alternatively the zigzag stitch of your sewing machine to finish the cut edges.

The colored lines in the pictures show you, in addition to the description, where to sew a seam or glue something.
When sewing, pay attention to the seam allowance included in the pattern. Seam allowances not specifically marked are 1 cm wide!
Have fun sewing!

First, sew the front and back shoulder pieces right sides together, finish the seam allowance, and press it forward.

Next up is the sleeve

Insert the sleeve into the armhole, right sides together. Pay close attention to the markings on the pattern so you don't mix up the left and right sleeves.

When sewing in the sleeve, make sure to leave a 1cm seam allowance at the side seam. The seam allowance is then finished together and pressed towards the shoulder.

Next, you can sew the side seam and sleeve seam together in one go and finish the raw edges. Press the seam allowance towards the front.

Now you finish the hem and sleeve hem edges, iron them over by 4cm and topstitch them.

Final spurt!

Sew the back center of the collar facing right sides together and press the seam open, then finish one long edge.

Iron the facing in half lengthwise, wrong side to wrong side.

Now, pin the collar facing, with the unfinished edge facing right sides together, to the edge of the jacket and sew it in place. Press the seam allowance into the collar facing.

At the bottom hem, fold the collar facing right sides together and sew the lower edge (left side in the photo), then turn the facing right side out again and press the edge flat (right side in the photo).

Finally, you stitch the aperture all the way through from the right.

Your ELIN is finished!
