Sewing pattern dress Gitte is perfect for summer. The short cap sleeves and elasticated waist provide a loose, airy feel. The dress is knee-length and has a beautiful, slightly flared skirt. Depending on the fabric, you can use the cut to create an airy casual dress or a dress for the office.
In this example, the Gitte dress was sewn from a jersey fabric (cotton and elastane content).
Cutting:
Cut the pattern pieces out of fabric and transfer the clips from the pattern. In addition to the description, the colorful brackets in the pictures show you where a seam needs to be sewn.
- 1x front part in the break
- 1x back part in the break
- 1x sleeve opposite
- 1x front facing in the break plus thin iron-on fleece
- 1x back cover in the break plus thin iron-on fleece
- 1x elastic band at your waist size
- 1x fabric strip for eyelet
- 1x button
Sewing instructions
Place the front piece on the back piece, right sides together, and sew the shoulder seams (staples) and then the side seams. Using the pattern, transfer the front slit to the front piece.
Fold the bottom edge of the sleeve inward around the seam allowance, iron it in place and topstitch it. Mark the clip from the pattern (purple clip) on the sleeve; it meets the shoulder seam.
Pin the sleeve to the armhole and sew it all around. You also clean up the entire armhole. Fold the serging just inwards and stitch it in place.
This is what your sewn-on sleeve looks like. Repeat on the other side.
Iron the iron-on fleece onto the left side of the fabric according to the manufacturer's instructions. Pin the facings together, right sides together, and close the shoulder seams (blue staples).
Fold the strip of the eyelet into a bias tape, iron it and stitch it in place close to the edge. Form an eyelet out of it.
Pin the facing onto the neckline, right sides together, so that the shoulder seams meet directly. Slide the fabric eyelet on the right between the two layers, just below the top edge. Sew the facing to the neck hole. Then shorten the seam to around 3mm. You can also add small clips to the curves so that the facing lays down more nicely.
Stitch the facing from the right side. Neaten the inside edge of the receipt...
... fold it slightly inwards and stitch it in place. Stitch the facing in the shoulder seam area with a few stitches so that the facing does not bulge out when you put it on.
Copy the markings for the rubber band (top red bracket, bottom blue bracket). Mark the middle of the elastic band (middle blue bracket). So that you can sew the elastic band evenly, sew the marked areas just inside the seam allowance of the side seams.
Then sew the elastic band on with an elastic stitch on your sewing machine, just pulling evenly on the elastic. It can be helpful if you stick small pins along the route in advance, so you can see exactly at what height the elastic band needs to be sewn on. Fold the hem of your dress inwards by 2cm twice...
... and stitch it in place. Finally, sew the button on the left side of the neckline at the eyelet level.
