Sewing instructions for the Gudrun shirt
shares
The classic Gudrun shirt gets a wonderfully individual look when you patch two different fabrics. The dividing seams make this a wonderful option. With its round neckline and short sleeves, Gudrun is a great basic cut that also makes the most of your leftovers.
Length at the center back = 61 – 66 cm
In this tutorial, Gudrun was sewn from viscose and jersey.
We recommend a soft jersey fabric combined with flowing, printed silk , viscose , or polyester satin .
Sizes 34-40 | jersey | 0.90 m | 140 cm wide |
Sizes 34-40 | Outer fabric | 0.75 m | 140 cm wide |
Sizes 42-52 | jersey | 1.00 m | 140 cm wide |
Sizes 42-50 | Outer fabric | 0.75 m | 140 cm wide |
Cutting:
Seam allowances are included - 1cm wide or as per marking clips!
Cut out the pattern pieces from your outer fabric. Lay the fabric right side up and the selvedge parallel to the center so that you can lay the front and back pieces on the fold. The pattern pieces should all be laid with the writing facing up. Always align the thread take-up arrow on all pieces in the same direction and parallel to the selvedge of the fabric. Transfer all notches from the pattern by making a 3mm long cut with scissors or chalk . Notch the seam allowance on the fold, as this is always the center . Markings define the positions of darts , pocket positions, and much more. Transfer these either with chalk or a pin . You need:
- 1x back part in the fracture
- 1x front part in the break
- 2x front side panels opposite
- 2x rear side panels opposite
- 2x sleeves opposite
- 1x strip
Sewing instructions:
Seam allowances are included - 1cm wide or as per marking clips!
To sew this shirt you will need a sewing machine and an overlock sewing machine, or alternatively the zigzag stitch on your sewing machine to neaten the cut edges.
Be sure to use a jersey needle and a stretchy stitch. This means that if you're using a home sewing machine, you should use either a zigzag stitch or a three-part stretch stitch. Then, finish all seam allowances with a zigzag stitch or another similar stitch to prevent fraying. The colored lines in the images show you, in addition to the description, where a seam needs to be sewn or glued.
When sewing, pay attention to the seam allowance included in the pattern. Seam allowances not specifically marked are 1cm wide!
Have fun sewing!
First, take all the front pieces. Place them right sides together and sew them together with a 1cm seam. Finish the seam allowances together and press them toward the center front.
Do the same with the back part.
Now sew the front and back pieces together, right sides together, at the shoulder seam. Neaten this seam and press the seam allowance to the back.
Next, sew the side seams, right sides together, with 1.5cm seam allowances. Again, neaten the seam allowances and press them back.
Next, we'll work on the sleeves. First, neaten the hem and press it inward 2 cm (this will make it easier to finish the hem later). Then, with right sides together, close the sleeves at the underarm seam, neaten the seam allowance, and press it back.
Insert each sleeve into the appropriate armhole (the notches must line up, including the side seams). Sew the sleeves in place, right sides together, and neaten the seam allowance. Press the seam allowance into the sleeve.
Now fold the sleeve hem inwards and stitch it at 1.5cm.
For the neckline, prepare the neckline facing. Iron it wrong sides together, with the fold folded. Now sew the short ends of the strip together, right sides together, to form a ring (fold the strip back to the front to do this). Iron the seam allowances open and the facing, wrong sides together, with the fold folded.
Now sew the facing, right sides together, to the neckline. I placed the seam of the strip onto the left shoulder seam.
Neaten the seam allowance of the neckline and press it down. Then, flat-stitch the seam allowance, keeping it close to the edge.
Finally, neaten the hem and press it inward by 2 cm. At 1.5 cm, sew the hem to the top and iron it flat.
