Sewing instructions for Shirt Mia
shares
Slip into our Mia shirt and feel instantly comfortable. The large neckline and dropped shoulders flatter every figure. We love the mix of materials, especially jersey with silk or jersey with polyester satin. The latter is easy to wash, making it a simple top you'll enjoy wearing every day. We recommend soft, flowing jersey and polyester or silk for patching.
In this example, the Mia shirt was sewn from jersey fabric (cotton with elastane) and elastic lace.
Cutting:
Seam allowances are included - 1cm wide or as per marking clips!
The front yoke consists of two fabrics (jersey and lace). They will be referred to as one fabric throughout the pattern because they are sewn together as a single unit. Cut out the fabric pieces and transfer the notches from the pattern. The colored brackets in the images show you where to sew a seam, in addition to the description.
- 1x back part in the fracture
- 1x lower front part in the fracture
- 1x front yoke in the fold
- 1x strip for the neck hole
- 2x strips for armhole finishing
Sewing instructions
Seam allowances are included - 1cm wide or as per marking clips!
Sew the front yoke right sides together onto the lower front piece.
You can then topstitch the seam from the right side.
Next, place your front piece right sides together on the back piece and close both the shoulder and side seams. First, iron the three strips in half lengthwise, wrong sides together (blue clips). Then, place the side edges right sides together and close the side seams (purple clips).
Fold the armhole and neckline strips in half, so that the right sides are on the outside and the seam you just sewed is hidden inside. Pin the right side of the strip into the armhole (on the wrong side) and to the neckline. The seam of the strip meets the side seam of the shirt (red clip to red clip) and the seam of the neckline strip meets the seam of the left shoulder seam. Sew the strips all the way around. Place the seam on the outside...
...and fold the ironed edge of the strip over to the right side of the shirt. Pin it securely.
Sew the strip in place, close to the edge. Repeat this on the other side and at the neckline.
Fold the hem of the shirt inwards twice by 2cm and sew it in place.
