Sewing instructions Tiered Skirt Roos

Wide tiered skirts exude a feeling of freedom and the spirit of the 70s. The wide tier at the bottom of the skirt gives Roos a relaxed, flowing silhouette that moves with you effortlessly. The elastic waistband makes the tiered skirt easy to put on and provides added comfort.

Length at back center = 92 cm

Rose was sewn from a viscose woven fabric in this tutorial.

Just so you know in advance:

Materials needed:

We recommend a flowing fabric such as viscose or silk.

    Sizes 34-50

    • Outer fabric 1.90m (140cm wide)

    • Rubber 0.65 - 1.05 m 3 cm wide

    Cut:

Seam allowances are included - 1cm wide or as indicated by the marking notches!

Cut out the pattern pieces from your main fabric and interfacing. Place the fabric right side up. Align the selvedges parallel to the center so you can lay out the upper skirt tier, lower skirt tier, and waistband on the fold. All pattern pieces should be laid with the printed side facing up. Always align the grainline arrow in the same direction on all pieces, parallel to the selvedge of the fabric. Transfer all notches from the pattern by making a 3mm snip with scissors or using chalk. Markings define the positions of dart ends, pocket positions, etc. Transfer these either with chalk or pins.

You will need the following fabric:

    • 1x bundle in the break
    • 2x Rock upper step in the break
    • 2x Rock lower step in the break

    Sewing instructions:

Seam allowances are included - 1cm wide or as indicated by the marking notches!

To sew this skirt you will need a sewing machine and an overlock sewing machine, or alternatively the zigzag stitch of your sewing machine to finish the cut edges.

The colored lines in the pictures show you, in addition to the description, where to sew a seam or glue something.

When sewing, pay attention to the seam allowance included in the pattern. Seam allowances not specifically marked are 1 cm wide!

    Have fun sewing!

Double iron the hem of the lower step...

    ...and around.

Sew the side seams of the upper tier right sides together and finish the seam allowances. Press the seam allowances to the back.

Sew the side seams of the lower tier right sides together and finish the seam allowances. Press the seam allowances to the back.

Now you gather the top edges of the steps. Either you have a gathering foot and the seam allowance then matches the pattern pieces, or you stitch two guidelines and gather by hand.

There is also a video here on how to create pleats.

Here you can see a close-up photo of the ripples.

You also curl the bottom layer all the way around.

Then you stitch the upper layer right sides together onto the lower layer and finish the seam allowances together.

Iron the binding on the left side, inside out.

Stitch the waistband together along the narrow sides, right sides facing. Remember to leave an opening in the inner waistband for the elastic. Press the seam allowances open.

The waistband has a pleat at the top fold. Sew a seam all the way around, a presser foot's width from the edge. (To secure the two layers of fabric, you can also sew a basting stitch a presser foot's width from the bottom edge.)

Now, join the waistband to the upper tier, right sides together, and finish the seam allowances. Press the seam allowances downwards.

Cut the elastic band to your correct size and thread it through the opening in the inner waistband using a safety pin.

Close the rubber band into a circle.

Finally, you stitch the already ironed hem close to the edge all the way around.
