Nähanleitung T-Shirt “Käthe”

Sewing instructions for the “Käthe” T-shirt

Käthe is a casual summer shirt that's perfect for patching different fabrics. The flared hem gives the shirt an A-line silhouette, and the dividing seams ensure a great fit.

Length in the center back = 66 – 72 cm

→ To the “Käthe” pattern

In this tutorial, Käthe was sewn from a patterned and a plain jersey.

Required materials:

We recommend a flowing and stretchy jersey.

Size 34-42 jersey 1.30 m 140 cm wide
Size 44-50 jersey 1.50 m 140 cm wide

Cutting:

Seam allowances are included - 1cm wide or as per marking clips!

Cut out the pattern pieces from your outer fabric. Lay the fabric right side up. Position the selvedges parallel to the center so you can place the front piece on the fold. The pattern pieces should all be placed with the writing facing up. Always align the grain arrow on all pieces in the same direction and parallel to the selvedge of the fabric. Transfer all notches from the pattern by making a 3mm snip with scissors or chalk. Notch the seam allowance along the fold, as this is always the center. Markings define the positions of dart ends, pocket positions, and much more. Transfer these either with chalk or pins.

You will need fabric:

  • 1x front part in the break
  • 2x back part opposite
  • 2x side parts opposite
  • 2x yoke opposite
  • 2x sleeves opposite
  • 1x neck hole strip

Sewing instructions:

Seam allowances are included - 1cm wide or as per marking clips!

To sew this T-shirt you will need a sewing machine and an overlock sewing machine, or alternatively the zigzag stitch on your sewing machine to neaten the cut edges.

Be sure to use a jersey needle and a stretchy stitch. This means that if you're using a home sewing machine, you should use either a zigzag stitch or a three-part stretch stitch. Then, finish all seam allowances with a zigzag stitch or another similar stitch to prevent fraying. The colored lines in the images show you, in addition to the description, where a seam needs to be sewn or glued.
When sewing, pay attention to the seam allowance included in the pattern. Seam allowances not specifically marked are 1cm wide!
Have fun sewing!

Sew the side pieces to the front piece and neaten the seam allowances together.

Sew the back pieces together at the center back and neaten the seam allowances. Now you can also sew the back side pieces to the back piece and neaten the seam allowances together.

Now sew the yoke to the back piece using the notches (double notches in the back) and neaten the seam allowances together.

Next, attach the yoke to the front piece, again neatening the seam allowances together.

Before closing the sleeve seam, you can neaten the hem and press it 1.5 cm wide. This will simplify the process.

To close the sleeve seam, fold the ironed hem back open. Then neaten the seam allowances together. Sew the sleeve into the corresponding armhole using the notches, and neaten the seam allowances together again.

Now stitch the sleeve hem at 1.2cm.

The hem of the T-shirt is also finished, ironed over 1.5cm and stitched through at 1.2cm.

Close the neckline strip into a circle and place it lengthwise along the fold. The right side is on the outside. Using the notches, sew the neckline strip to the neckline, right sides together. The seam of the strip is positioned at the shoulder notch. Finally, neaten the seam allowance and press it into the body, then topstitch it to the body close to the edge.
