Nähanleitung Tasche Gina

Sewing instructions for Gina bag

The Gina bag pattern is a simple yet visually sophisticated tote bag . With the ready-made bag handles, this round bag is sewn in no time and also makes a lovely gift. The two darts on each side give the bag the necessary volume. We recommend using a sturdy fabric, such as cotton, faux leather, or denim.

In this example, the Gina bag was sewn from a sturdy cotton fabric.

Sewing instructions

Seam allowances are included - 1cm wide or as per marking clips!

Fold the top edge of the inner pocket inwards twice by 1cm.

Stitch this in place. Neaten the three remaining open edges and fold each one inward 1cm.

Position the inner pocket, wrong sides together, on one of the pocket pieces. You can either use the position from the pattern or adjust it to your liking. Sew both sides and the bottom edge to the pocket. Leave the top edge, the pocket opening, open. Don't forget to tack the seam securely at the beginning and end.

Using a marker, transfer the darts to the wrong sides of the fabric (four times in total). Fold the bag (right sides together) so that the two drawn lines line up exactly and meet at the point of the dart. Sew exactly along the line, from the point outwards, and don't forget to tack the seam.

Place the pocket pieces right sides together, making sure that two darts meet. Make sure the seam allowances are facing in opposite directions, so the dart seams line up perfectly. Sew the pocket pieces together up to the notches (red clips in the image above).

Then, clip the side at the red mark and fold the edge inward twice by 1 cm, all the way to the top. Secure this by backstitching the seams.

This is what the seam looks like. Now topstitch the pocket's curved seam once, leaving a 1.2 cm gap from the outer edge, so that the previously closed seam disappears inside. Start at the opening and finish there on the other side. Lock the seams.

Next, neaten the two top edges of the bag. Fold the seam slightly inward and stitch it in place.

Following the markings on the pattern, fold the wide flap inward and place the bag handle into the fold. Sew this seam and lock it.

This is what it looks like when sewn on. The inner pocket is sewn parallel to the top edge.
