The Karla tunic is a casual long blouse: wide and very comfortable. Karla shouldn't be a problem for sewing beginners, as the neck hole is also finished with open edges. With the ties from the side seam, the width can be controlled and tied at both the front and back. Just try out what you like better.
Length at center back = 80 – 84 cm
In this pattern, Karla was sewn from a flowing chiffon.
Required material:
We recommend a fine, flowing fabric such as polyester chiffon, silk or viscose
Size 34-42 | Outer fabric | 170cm long | 140cm wide |
Size 44-50 | Outer fabric | 200cm long | 140cm wide |
Cutting:
Cut the pattern pieces from your outer fabric. Lay the fabric right side up. Lay the selvedges parallel to the middle so that you can place the front and back pieces in the fold. The pattern pieces should all lie face up. Always align the thread arrow in the same direction on all pieces and parallel to the selvedge of the fabric. Transfer all the clippings from the pattern through a 3mm long incision with scissors or chalk . Clip the seam allowance in the fabric fold because this is always a center. Markings define positions of dart end points, pocket positions, and much more. Transfer these either with chalk or pins .
What you need from fabric:
- 1x back part in the break
- 1x front part in the break
- 2x sleeves in opposite directions
- 2x binding strips
- 1x neck hole strip
Sewing instructions:
To sew this tunic you will need a sewing machine and an overlock sewing machine, or alternatively the zigzag stitch on your sewing machine to neaten the cut edges.
In addition to the description, the colorful lines in the pictures show you where a seam needs to be sewn or something needs to be glued.
When sewing, pay attention to the seam allowance included in the pattern. Seam allowances that are not specifically marked are 1cm wide!
Have fun sewing!
Place the front piece on the back piece, right sides together, and sew the shoulder seams together. Finish the seam allowance and press it backwards.
We continue with the neck hole. Sew the short ends of the strip together, right sides together, so that you have a ring. Sew one open side of the strip to the neck hole, right sides together. I placed the seam of the strip on the seam of the left shoulder.
Now neaten up the seam allowances and iron them into the top.
Stitch the seam allowance firmly from the right side, starting from just under the edge and possibly 0.7 cm wide next to the seam (the upper edge now protrudes unfinished from the neck hole).
Next, sew the sleeves into the corresponding armhole. You can use the clip in the front and sleeve to determine which sleeve goes where. The double clip always belongs in the back armhole. Finish the seam allowances together and iron them into the sleeve.
Sew the ties together lengthwise, right sides together. Leave one of the two short sides open, as you have to turn the straps right-side out through this opening. Then iron the ribbons flat on the edge.
Sew the finished ribbons onto the clip marks on the side seams.
Next, close the underarm and side seams in one go. Finish the seam allowances together and iron them into the back piece. Finish the sleeve hems and top hem and iron them inward by 2cm. Stitch the hems securely to the outer fabric at 1.5cm and iron flat.
