PROCESSING SEAM POCKETS

Pockets on dresses, coats, skirts and trousers are wonderful, but how do you actually sew in the hidden pockets?!

We have made the pattern for the Mubera jacket to explain it to you. So let's go.

For the seam pockets you need:

  • 4x pocket bags
  • 4x tops

As the name suggests, the seam pockets are integrated into a seam. The special thing about the Mubera pattern is that the pocket opening is on the front pattern parts. For the first step, overcast the seam allowance on the tops and the straight edge on the pocket bags. Then sew one of the pocket bags, right sides together, to the matching front piece.

The natural addition is ironed out. Now you sew the seam allowance on both sides of the seam, close to the edge (info: blue line = seam; yellow lines = stitching).

Do this with both sides and place both pieces on top of each other, right sides together.

Now connect the front pieces with two seams. Once from the hem to the clip, on the pocket bag (marked with a pin) and once from the sleeve to the clip.

Then all you have to do is sew the pocket bags together and finish the seam allowance.

This is what the finished bag looks like from the inside.

Have lots of fun with it
