Bias cut

Why is a bevel cut used?

“Bias cut” means that the pattern is cut diagonally to the grain (45-degree angle) to achieve a figure-hugging, smooth and elegant fit.

The diagonal cut makes the fabric slightly stretchy and flexible.

You can test this by cutting an approximately 8 x 8 cm square of fabric along the grain and then pulling it diagonally at the corners. It will be more stretchy diagonally than when pulled along the grain or at right angles to the grain.

This processing gives the dress an elegant, figure-hugging fit and a flowing drape, which looks particularly impressive with fabrics such as silk, chiffon or viscose.

Don't worry, you just need to pay attention to the marked grain line when cutting. Otherwise, the processing is as usual.

Layered Look:
